National Stadium Karachi Set for Grand Reopening with Spectacular Ceremony

Karachi: The newly-renovated National Stadium Karachi is set to be inaugurated tomorrow evening with a vibrant ceremony featuring fireworks and a spectacular light show. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the public will enjoy free entry to the event.

National Stadium Karachi’s Major Renovation Completed

The reconstruction of National Stadium Karachi started on September 28, 2024, and was successfully completed on January 31, 2025. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi highlighted that the pavilion building was completely demolished and rebuilt, and new seats were installed in every enclosure to enhance the spectator experience.

Upgraded Features for a World-Class Experience

The stadium now consists:

  • Advanced LED floodlights for improved visibility.
  • Modern score screens for real-time match updates.
  • Removal of fences to provide an unobstructed view for fans.

Naqvi praised the tireless efforts of labourers, Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak), contractors, and the PCB team in completing this large-scale renovation.

The inaugural ceremony will be headlined by renowned Pakistani music artists, including:

  • Shafqat Amanat Ali
  • Sahir Ali Bagga

Preparation for Champions Trophy 2025

The renovations come ahead of the much-anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where Pakistan will host 10 matches. Visiting teams will be provided with top-tier amenities, ensuring a world-class experience for both players and spectators.

The Champions Trophy will feature eight teams divided into two groups:

Group A:

  • Pakistan
  • India
  • New Zealand
  • Bangladesh

Group B:

  • Afghanistan
  • South Africa
  • England
  • Australia

The tournament begins on February 19 and will conclude on March 9. Notably, Pakistan will host most of the matches, but four key matches, including India’s group-stage games and the first semi-final, will take place in Dubai.

If India qualifies for the final, it will also be moved to Dubai; otherwise, the final is scheduled to be held in Lahore.

Gaddafi Stadium Lahore Also Revamped

This grand reopening follows the renovation of Gaddafi Stadium Lahore, recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The stadium will host its first Champions Trophy match on February 22, featuring an intense battle between England and Australia.

Ongoing Tri-Nation Series

In the lead-up to the Champions Trophy, Karachi and Lahore are currently hosting a tri-nation series between Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa. The series commenced on February 8 and will continue until February 14.
