Israel-Hamas Ceasefire takes affect after delay.

A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas has officially taken effect after a nearly three-hour delay, during which Israeli airstrikes killed at least 19 Palestinians.

Under the terms of the agreement, fighting will pause, and three Israeli captives along with approximately 90 Palestinian prisoners will be released on the first day of its implementation. Israel confirmed it has received the names of the captives to be freed.

Meanwhile, thousands of displaced Palestinians have started returning to their homes, many finding them destroyed or severely damaged.

Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in the deaths of at least 46,913 Palestinians and injuries to 110,750 others. On the same day, Hamas-led attacks in Israel killed 1,139 people and saw more than 200 taken captive.

This ceasefire provides a temporary relief amid months of escalating violence, offering hope for humanitarian relief in the region.
