CM Maryam Nawaz Distributes Scholarships to Students in Sialkot
SIALKOT: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz distributed cheques to students under the Punjab government’s “Honhaar Scholarship Programme” at a ceremony held at Government College Women University on Wednesday.
Speaking to the students, she announced that scholarships worth Rs72 million would be awarded to 30,000 first-year students across Punjab. She emphasized that the scholarships were given purely on merit, without any influence from lawmakers or ministers.
Maryam Nawaz also mentioned that laptops and electric bikes would be distributed to students free of charge. The Punjab government plans to extend the scholarship scheme to second- and third-year students in the near future.
She further highlighted that in the next budget, funds would be allocated to provide scholarships to an additional 50,000 students. The first shipment of laptops for students has arrived, and those who score 65% marks or higher would be eligible to receive one.
Additionally, she announced the distribution of 100,000 electric bikes to students, aimed at helping them travel independently to their educational institutions.
The CM encouraged parents to support their daughters, believing they would bring pride to their families and the nation.
Maryam Nawaz also praised University of Narowal student Aliza Riaz for her academic excellence while handing her a scholarship cheque. She added that during her tenure as chief minister, she had not made any officer transfers based on recommendations.
Federal Minister for Defence Khwaja Asif and Punjab Higher Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat also attended the event.
